Youtube-dl – Download Youtube Videos Via Linux Command Line

Introduction

youtube-dl is a command-line program to download videos from youtube.com.

Its a platform independent application that runs on both windows and Linux platforms.

youtube-dl requires python interpreter to run.

Installation

There are a number of ways t install youtube-dl i.e curl, wget or via python pip

If you have curl installed on your Linux/unix system, simply run the following commands

If you do not have curl, you can also use wget

You can also use python-pip if you have pip setup

On centos, youcan also install from yum repositories

On Mac, you can also install youtube-dl using homebrew or MacPorts

youtube-dl is now ready for use. There is no mandatory requirement to configure anything. It can be used as it is.

In this guide, we’ll demonstrate the simplest way to use youtube-dl. Simple go to youtube and open any video link.

Right click and select copy video url

youtube-dl

In the terminal type youtube-dl <youtube-video-url> e.g

The video will be downloaded into your current directory
